The women of the workshops on techniques of drawing and painting in the prison of Sesuntepeque had a successful exhibition in fall 2009. During two weeks, all final results of the workshops were shown on a great wall inside the prison. They addressed topics such as peace, love, hope, freedom, friendship and family. A few weeks after, Quetzalcoatl took the chance to also exhibit their work in another prison; the penitentiary centre of Jucuapa.
This Thursday December 17th, after being closed for a long time, Severo 172 finally opened with the grand multi-discipline interactive urban art expo Resistência! This cultural explosion set Rio de Janeiro’s city centre Lapa up side down and once more showed that Rio de Janeiro does have an innovating art scene that shouldn’t be neglected!

After a very violent confronting battle between the Rio de Janeiro military police and local organized crime of the surrounding hills of Sampaio, it took a while before Projeto Queto got back on track with the workshops. Nevertheless, Projeto Queto as being the only artistic and cultural centre in the area stands strong and faces the every day difficulties with pride and strength.
On October 11th, Projeto Queto officially encloses the 2nd series of workshops graffiti and audio production (DJ). The workshops will be closed with a big live performance on the main square of the community of Morro do Queto. The participants of both workshops will show the neighborhood what they’ve been learning in the last few months. The students of the graffiti workshop wil paint the walls of the main square in the community called Apoteose, while the fresh audio-producers will present their first real mix-tapes for live for the local audience.
Caramundo closed the summer months in Rotterdam successfully. Camera Mundo, The Brazilian Squares around town and R.U.A. (Reflexo on Urban Art) - Festival which gave Rotterdam beautiful Brazilian art and culture in the streets, we can proudly look back to this warm summer.
In August, the women imprisoned in Susentepuque prison, who participated in the workshop design and art, have organized their first exhibition in the prison itself. The impact the workhop and the exhibition had on the self esteem of the women was great and showed us how the importance to continue with the activities.
After a succesfull 1st edition, the 2nd edition of Camera Mundo, Independent Film Festival will take place from June 26th until June 28th. The festival is fully dedicated to Brazilian independent film productions of all types. Camera Mundo, initiated by Caramundo, was born out of the wish to create an international stage for young and talented Brazilian independent filmmakers, and to give them the opportunity they need to be able to grow in the world of professional cinema.
After several great shows with Turbo Trio in Holland, the Wallbangaz finally strike back! Their tour in Brazil is a fact! With their last hand at their new album “Dirty From The Streets” they finally hit the Brazilian road with concerts in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Curitiba.
This summer our partner MiCamichula organizes silkscreen workshops on the Brazilian Squares in Rotterdam. MiCamichula teaches youngsters the basic skills of t-shirt design, step by step. In the workshop youngsters start with taking photo’s of their own surroundings. These photographs are then transformed into graphic designs and with the silkscreen printing technique the youngsters learn how to print these designs onto a t-shirt.
Sunday June 28st, Sampaio and region celebrate the finals of the eleventh edition of the Copa Sampaio Futebol de Favela. The semi finalists of this competition are Juventude, Céu Azul, Mixto and Jamaica.
Guta Galli is a passionate young photographer from São Paulo. In her work she calls for attention for cultures and peoples in extinction or suffering threat. With her photographs, Guta supports the battle those people fight and the resistance they daily pay in order to live and maintain their traditions alive in a globalizing and constantly modernizing Brazil.
